April is a wonderful month of sunshine and showers in Ireland and the Southwest really comes alive with the return of some of our marine life in this month -such as minke and humpback whales, common dolphins and basking sharks. Many sea birds like puffins, razorbills, gannets, and kittiwakes return to their breeding colonies also in April and it’s a fantastic month for spotting rare passage migrants too.

October is also a fantastic month weather-wise with the leaves turning in the National Parks and the Red Deer rut in full swing. Also a great month for spotting whales off-shore and migrating passage migrants. We also see the tens of thousands of returning birds that over-winter here in Ireland returning from Iceland and Greenland such as Brent Geese and Whooper swans.

With fewer other tourists around in both April and October, these are great months on the road here with almost empty heritage sites and lonely trails which will make your Wolfhound Adventure feel all the more exclusive.
